Adrianna & Nick: Don't be Afraid to have Fun!

Adrianna and Nick hit up the blog last week with some photo booth fun that was new for me and a blast for them. This week, I've got a little bit more from their special day at The Chamberlin.

Let me preface this post by saying that Adrianna and Nick are the poster children for laid back, go with the flow couples. We spent a lot of time hammering down every tiny detail in their timeline, working out specific to do lists, locations, even choreographed movements to achieve certain results that we were all super excited about.

And then it poured cats and dogs literally right before their outdoor lawn ceremony. But they didn't skip a beat. They quite happily adjusted, got themselves up and married and continued on their merry way. Thankfully, the rain was fleeting and we were able to head outside to get some group shots.

This is where the core of my post today sits. There were some BIG personalities in Adrianna & Nick's bridal party, themselves of course included in the "loud and proud" crowd. As I had mentioned in their last post, this was a big reason why they relied heavily on the photo booth for their family images instead of a more formal approach. They like to laugh and they're not afraid to do what's fun for them. And that's the most important thing to take away from their wedding. Do you.

Not everyone is into neon colors, sunglasses, duck faces and "give me your best tiger." (NAME THAT MOVIE!) But they are. SO that's what we did and the results are real and they're them. And they love them. And that's what matters.

The Chosen Few: Nichole & Daniel

If you've been following me for awhile, it's no secret that I adore Nichole & Daniel. I've blogged their engagement session, Nichole's bridal portraits, their First Look...and now here we are with the last in this series. The special moments of their most important day.

I know without a shadow of a doubt that this won't be the last time you see Nichole & Daniel grace the pages of this blog with their awesomeness. I can't wait to see where life takes them and excitedly await my next opportunity to capture their journey. Love you guys!

Most of these are in black and white for a simple reason. I love it. No, really. I love it. Black and white photography speaks "moments captured" to me. It feels organic and timeless. It breathes emotion and the essence of that blink of time. I can't resist it.

PS. Many, many thanks to Somer for being the bestest second shooter in the whole wide world! I just loved every minute of having your talented, funny person all to myself! Can't wait for our next adventure.

Inside and Out

She is humble and feisty. Opinionated and tender. She laughs big and cries hard. She is woman. And she is beautiful, inside and out. And on this day, and forevermore, she was, and is, the most beautiful bride in the whole wide world.

Braden, you touched my heart. You are an absolute joy to know and I was incredibly proud of you on your wedding day. It's a funny thing when a client becomes a friend. You find yourself marveling at the amazing blessing it is to be in the inner circle on the most important day of their life. It's not a job anymore. It's more. So much more. And to see all of your planning, giddy expectations, hopes and dreams come to pass as you walked down the aisle towards your soul mate...it was something to behold.

Thank you for your spirit, whimsy, clarity and endless excitement. You radiate a deep love for life and I envy a woman that knows what she wants and makes it happen with such grace and class. I look forward to watching you and your husband grow in your life together and appreciate the opportunity to capture such a thrilling time for you both.

Congrats and blessings abundant.
Katy

PS. Matt, you're pretty cool too.

The Little Things

This is my favorite picture from Heather & Tiff's July 3rd wedding at the beautiful Talbot Hall in Norfolk, VA. Really, it's nothing crazy. No deep artistic composition. No impressive photo editing on my part. No stunning light. It's a candid snapshot. But I love it.

Why?

This picture screams Heather & Tiff to me. Love, love, love those two. They know how to laugh. And laugh hard. Heather looks stunning in this picture. Because she is truly at ease, doing what she does best. Laugh with her Tiff. Happy day.

That's why I like it. Love it. It's the little things sometimes. It needs to be the little things most times, but we all know we get lost in life. Lost in crisis. Lost in time flying by. Lost in being lost. And we miss these key moments. Of simplicity. A good laugh on the most special day of your life. 30 seconds that were absolutely crystalline. Perfect. Unrestrained. Unreserved. Unpracticed. The real you. And you're beautiful.

Congratulations Heather & Tiff! Thank you for reminding me to laugh. A lot.
